Think MIX08 was awesome? Believe the hype that Tech Ed is cool? Forgetaboutit. INTERACT2008 is where the party is at this year! I mean, the conference is so mind blowing, they have no choice but to redirect the web site to HTTPS instantly upon your arrival there. Seriously, that should tell you what goes on at conferences like this.

If you’re not going, you should really consider it. The FAQ from the site lists those who should attend, and I think it’s safe to say that this describes 90% of you. Easily. (Is the sarcasm dripping enough yet?)

MVPs: Exchange and OCS MVPs heart of community

Online Influencers: Active in online communities and have broad influence

Key Partners: Our key partners in GSIs, key ISVs, and VPPs

IT Professionals, IT Decision Makers and Business Decision Makers, and Influencers: Exchange, network & telephony teams; IT directors and non IT business unit directors who influence IT from managed accounts orgs

Developers: Exchange and OCS developers working towards UC

Analysts: Key influencer analysts

I myself actually fall into the influencer/developer role, as lately I’ve been working some with Office Communications Server and Office Communicator.

Anyway, if you happen to be in the 0.01% of the online population attending this event, let me know and let’s meet up! It’s in San Diego from April 8-10. And if you just live in that area and have any good sight-seeing ideas, or want to meet up, let me know – I’ve never been out there before.

Today my daughter Hannah announced that she’d like to be swaddled “just like baby Jadon”. How can you not love these kids? Sometimes when I’m in the middle of coding at home (either for work or for play) Hannah will come up and say “Daddy, I wanna type!” — and I’m reminded again of what’s important in life! Then as she’s banging away at the keyboard (with MS Word on the screen) she somehow instantly minimizes Word, pulls up my VPN software (for work), and resets all of it’s built-in settings requiring me to reinstall it. What the…?!? I don’t even know how to do that.

They, along with my wife, are the joy of my life!

Oh, and on a coding note, Hannah can already type her name (she just turned 2) and I’m thinking of installing KPL and maybe read Hannah some bedtime stories from Design Patterns in C#.

It’s with great happiness that I announce the birth of our son (our 2nd child), Jadon!

Vitals
Born: 05/24/2006 @ 12:06 PM
Weight: 9 lbs 1 oz
Height: 21 1/2 in

We’ve all gone into survival mode (although the addition of a mother-in-law for a week or more helps me out with sleep). And yet I’m still finding time for some programming for fun!

I’ve been playing with Windows Powershell, and I can’t help but feel that all I can see is the tip of a very large iceberg! I’ve been having dreams of script-enabling our applications at work, and specifically our admin interfaces. Right now they do not have a programmable interface (no API, no built-in WMI, nothing). When we slowly begin re-writing many of them in .NET, I think this is going to be an angle I’m going to push for pretty hard.

To begin the dive into what I can and can’t do, I’ve decided to create a test/sample Powershell Provider for NewsGator, my online (and off-line) RSS reader. They have a web services API that exposes all of your data—hierarchical folders, subscriptions, posts, etc. When it’s done, the pathing and structure will work something like this:

get-childitem newsgator:\My Feeds\Best Blogs Ever\Software Development Journal\

Posted On Post
———————— ————
5/18/2006 11:35:43 AM Nokia E50
4/26/2006 2:38:16 PM Gaming and Application Development
4/6/2006 7:19:35 AM Metadata Attributes for Custom Controls
3/31/2006 8:47:22 AM Embedding Flash in C#

I’ll post the provider assembly here if/when I get it done!
